# Xcursions Case Study

Building a Connected Travel Brand and Digital Experience

Project Overview

Xcursions is an integrated travel platform designed to simplify how people plan, pay for, and manage international trips.

The product brings essential travel services into one connected ecosystem, allowing users to book flights, reserve hotels, discover tours and events, apply for eVisas, purchase eSIMs, create trip savings plans, and generate personalized itineraries using an AI travel planner.

The project required three major design deliverables:

* A distinct and scalable brand identity * A mobile application for booking and trip management * A responsive marketing website for discovery and conversion

The central design challenge was to make a feature-rich travel platform feel simple, exciting, and approachable.

The Challenge

Travel planning is often fragmented across multiple platforms.

A traveler may need one website for flights, another for accommodation, a separate service for visas, another app for local tours, and an entirely different platform for travel payments or connectivity.

This creates several problems:

* Too many platforms and accounts * Disconnected booking information * Difficulty comparing options * Complicated visa and documentation processes * Unexpected roaming and currency costs * Limited visibility into upcoming trips * High upfront costs for travel packages * Poor support during time-sensitive travel moments

Xcursions needed to bring these services together without creating an overwhelming experience.

Project Goals

The project focused on five major goals.

Create a recognizable travel brand that communicates adventure, movement, freedom, and digital convenience. Simplify travel planning so users can move naturally from inspiration to booking, payment, and trip management. Connect multiple travel products — flights, hotels, tours, events, packages, eVisas, eSIMs, wallets, virtual cards, and trip savings — into a unified system. Increase trust through clear pricing, booking statuses, payment details, verification flows, and accessible support. Build for scale with reusable components and interaction patterns that can support new services, destinations, currencies, and providers.

Brand Strategy

The core brand idea was built around freedom to explore, with everything connected.

Xcursions needed to feel adventurous without becoming visually chaotic. It also needed to feel financially trustworthy without becoming too corporate.

The brand personality was defined as curious, free-spirited, helpful, modern, optimistic, reliable, and globally aware. The voice was designed to sound like an experienced travel companion rather than a formal booking engine.

Product Architecture

The mobile application uses a simplified primary-navigation system across five pillars: Home, Explore, Wallet, Bookings, and Profile.

The home dashboard provides quick access to flights, hotels, tours, packages, eVisas, eSIMs, the AI planner, wallet, active savings plans, recent bookings, and discount deals.

Mobile App Experience

The onboarding experience introduces the platform through the user's travel journey, communicating that users can plan with AI, book flights and stays, apply for visas, stay connected with eSIMs, pay using their wallet, and manage everything from one account.

Key flows designed include flight booking, hotel and stay booking, tours and experiences, travel packages, eVisa applications, eSIM purchasing, wallet management, virtual cards, and trip savings.

Wallet and Financial Services

The Xcursions wallet supports NGN and USD. Users can fund their wallet, receive funds, convert currencies, pay for bookings, withdraw funds, review transactions, receive refunds, and save toward trips.

The virtual card experience allows users to create wallet-linked cards for travel purchases and online payments with full spending controls.

Trip Savings

Trip Savings was introduced to help users commit to travel without paying the full amount immediately. Users set a target trip, choose a daily, weekly, or monthly saving frequency, enable auto-save, and track progress toward their travel goal.

Website Experience

The Xcursions website was designed to introduce the product, build trust, and drive downloads and bookings — following a narrative from inspiration through problem, solution, product ecosystem, trust signals, and conversion.

Design System

A reusable design system was created to support consistency across the app, website, and admin tools — covering buttons, inputs, booking cards, transaction rows, status badges, modals, empty states, and navigation components.

Admin Experience

The admin dashboard supports operational management across users, flights, hotels, tours, packages, eVisa applications, eSIM purchases, transactions, refunds, wallet activity, trip savings, content management, reports, and platform settings.

Outcome

The final design transformed a broad set of travel and financial features into a structured, connected ecosystem — delivering a scalable brand identity, a clear mobile product architecture, a responsive marketing website, unified booking flows, consistent wallet and payment patterns, a flexible design system, a detailed admin experience, and a foundation for future integrations.

Xcursions turns travel planning from a collection of disconnected tasks into one clear, confident, and exciting journey.
